second draft The Girl In The Mirror

I'm now into the second draft of my trilogy, The Girl In The Mirror. I'm calling this book 'The Wish'.

This is a lot slower going as I'm filling in the bits what I didn't worry about in the first draft. I plan to finish this book in about a month and get started on the third draft after that.

When that's all done, I'm referring to my writing blog and doing the step by step process and looking at plot holes, next sweep - dialogue (true to character), next sweep -scene setting, next - introspection and so on.

Second draft

Hi

Today I started on the second draft. I love creating but the endless drafts are not as easy.

The Girl In The Mirror - close now

I've been to preoccupied to post lately.

Hey, I'm up to page 392 now. I'm planning to finish the second story at page 410 or so. It depends when I can neatly tie it up so that it will be a satisfying ending. I've decided to write a third book that way I don't have to jam all the things I want to happen in the two books I'm writing now. The third book will be done when I'm finished with the first two and have them ready for publishing.

I'm trying to ensure that my secondary characters are fully fleshed out and that's not a easy task as I'm writing in first person. That means that the reader is only privy to what's happening if the main character, Samantha, is there. We can't know what anyone else is thinking either. This is where dialogue, actions and Samantha's thoughts concerning the secondary characters help.

Slave traders

Hi

I went for my usual walk the other day and saw that the stately home that was falling apart now has a company renovating it. I was so glad.

I'm up to page 355 and I can't believe I've gotten this far. I'm thinking that I will have to write a third book to complete the story properly.  But the last book I will leave until I have polished the other two first.

I've just returned from Nyngan in the outback. The scenery is so different to what I'm used to that I think I will incorporate it in my story.

I've decided to include a chapter where my main character has a very scary time with slave traders as they were very much a part of the ancient world. On the main, they have squashed-in faces and a strange way of expressing themselves. Other than that these men are the type you wouldn't want to run across in a dark alley.

The whole process of writing surprises me. I don't know where the ideas come from. Sometimes I just can't get the flow going and then something sparks an idea and off I go again.

Sometime I think I'm crazy to be writing with no guarantee of success. I can't explain why I write. Maybe I hope that one day something will work and I'll have people who like what I write as much as I do.

Best of luck with your efforts.

Hi
I'm up to page 291 of my fantasy story The Girl In The Mirror. I can't believe I'm still enjoying the process. I usually get bogged down long before now. I'm actually into the second book as I haven't split the two books yet. That will come second draft.

Going well

Hi

I've had a break from writing The Girl In The Mirror as I was on holidays for a month. Now I'm back writing the first draft of my second book. I'm up to page 267. It sounds a lot but I haven't separated the books and have them in one file. When I get to second draft then I'll separate them. I'm up to chapter 8 so I have a way to go.

I'm busy building the world. I use a small program called Microsoft Inspiration (uses graphics) to help me keep track of the characters, places, animals, etc. I create clouds. Then I connect them to whoever they belong to or place they belong to. And I add notes which hide away when I don't need them. In those notes I put anything and everything I can think of about the person, place, etc.

Still writing my fantasy story

Hi
I'm up to page 224 of my fantasy story 'The Girl in the Mirror.'
I should have been at the end of my story but I wasn't. Then after a lot of thinking I realised that I couldn't end this story without making it complete and I couldn't do that in one book. I was going to have to make this story span two books. How was I ever going to do that? Was I crazy, I thought. Anyway, I've gotten loads more ideas to continue. I don't know where they (the ideas) come from but somehow I manage to get them down page by page. I'm still enjoying the process which is amazing for me. Maybe this is because I'm trying very hard not to look back on what I've written but keep moving forward. The polishing will come next draft.
